Dr. Shilpa Ghurye is an Assistant County Attorney at Harris County Attorney’s Office-Hospital District Practice Group. Shilpa has experience providing general civil legal representation for Harris County Hospital District, the fourth largest public hospital system in the U.S. with 2 acute care hospitals, a rehabilitation hospital and 17 community health centers on a range of healthcare litigation and regulatory matters. Shilpa provides litigation support on cases involving Title VII, ADA and retaliation, medical malpractice, and premises liability, and provides legal support on compliance and regulatory matters associated with patient care. She has provided legal advice pertaining to claims of copyright infringement. She has also interned at the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

Prior to this, Shilpa worked as Biotechnology Technical Specialist at Adler & Associates where she provided scientific expertise for patenting inventions, identified patentable subject matter for life sciences inventions, interpreted patent laws and prepared legal opinions for university licensing offices and inventors regarding scientific inventions. Shilpa has also worked as a Graduate Research Assistant in the Department of Immunology at University of Texas-M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.

Shilpa has JD from South Texas College of law and Ph.D. in Immunology from University of Texas Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and University of Texas-M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. She also has M.S. in Biochemistry and B.S in Microbiology and Biochemistry. She is admitted to practice before the US Patent & Trademark Office and licensed to practice in State of Texas.
