Michael A. Davenport has over 29 years of legal and business counsel experience. He is a retired Commander of the United States Navy Judge Advocate General’s Corp (JAGC), a former Assistant Attorney General for the State of Texas and the founder of Davenport Law Offices, a risk management and litigation firm established in 1984 with practice areas in business, criminal and probate law.
Mr. Davenport was graduated from Thurgood Marshall School of Law in 1984 and admitted to the Texas State Bar. He is licensed to practice before all Texas State Courts, the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas.
Since 2011, Mr. Davenport has served as a Business Advisor with the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Initiative offered through the Houston Community College System. As a Business Advisor, Mr. Davenport provides business consultative services to the selected small business C-level Executives [“Scholars”] who gain greater access to business education, mentors, financial capital opportunities and networks. Mr. Davenport guides Scholars in assessing the effectiveness and efficiency of their current business operations – people, processes and technology. Mr. Davenport is one of two original Business Advisors and has provided executive coaching to over 250 plus small businesses during this Initiative.
Mr. Davenport has more than 12 years’ experience as a former college professor with the Houston Community College System and the Lone Star Community College where he instructed business law, human resources and other business-related courses. Mr. Davenport served as President of the Board of Directors at Care Net Pregnancy Center of Northwest Houston for three consecutive terms (2011 – 2013) and currently facilitates employment-related enrichment seminars at the Center, coaching clients concerning life and career situations.
